Why is Zeltiq Unique?

What makes the Zeltiq treatment different is its advanced cooling of technology that targets and eliminates fat cells. This process, called "cryolipolysis," takes advantage of the fact that fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures than surrounding tissues such as skin or muscle.

Unlike traditional invasive surgical procedures, Zeltiq is non-invasive, with no needles, no anesthesia and no incisions. And there is no recovery time! You can return to your normal activity level - including exercise - immediately!

The procedure is performed in the office and can take from 1-3 hours, depending upon the number of areas treated during one session. You can bring a laptop to catch up on your e-mail, a book or iPad to read, or an iPod/MP3 player to listen to music. Or you can just take a nap!

How Zeltiq Works

During the procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells in specific areas of the body. The exposure to cooling causes the fat cells to begin a process of natural removal, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. The fat cells in the treated area are gently eliminated through the body's normal metabolic processes, like fat from food. The result is a gradual reduction in fat bulges that is visible to most patients in two to four months.

Ideal candidates for the Zeltiq Procedure are relatively fit, but have some modest-size fat bulges that are not easily reduced through diet and exercise. They are seeking spot reduction for specific areas of fat, but are not considering a surgical procedure. The Zeltiq Procedure is not a way to lose weight or treat obesity, and is not a substitute for invasive methods like liposuction.

After Your Zeltiq Treatment

After treatment, redness of the skin will appear in the treated area and may last from a few minutes to a few hours. Some localized bruising may occur which clears within a few weeks. Many patients experience a temporary numbness, burning, tingling or dulling of sensation in the treated area lasting from several days to eight weeks.

Dr Gotkin will see you back to monitor your progress as the fat cells are metabolized and the fatty layer is reduced. At about 4 months following your treatment, a visit should be scheduled to assess your cosmetic improvement and consider whether additional Zeltiq treatments may be beneficial to achieve greater fat reduction and improvement in body contour.

Results

The results of the Zeltiq treatment are not as rapid or dramatic as invasive procedures such as liposuction. However, if you are not yet prepared for surgical treatment, then Zeltiq might be the perfect solution for you.

Patients experiencing fat layer reduction with the Zeltiq procedure show persistent results for as along in time as studies have been carried out. The elimination of fat cells as a result of Zeltiq treatment is expected to last as long as fat cells removed by invasive procedures such as liposuction - permanently!
