Background

Most of us want to look our best, but have neither the time nor patience to experiment with lengthy cosmetic surgeries that require time off from work.

With Cosmetique’s advanced laser technology, you’ll see dramatic, long-term improvement in the look and feel of your skin. Our high-tech lasers smooth wrinkles, even the skin tone, remove blotchiness and imperfections, and diminish the effect of sun damage.

DOT Therapy: The Newest Breakthrough in Laser Skin Resurfacing

From the hills of Tuscany, comes the new "Ferrari" of lasers that can dramatically increase the texture and appearance of your skin: the SmartXide DOT, affectionately known as the Smart Dot.

DOT Therapy is the newest breakthrough technology in fractional ablative laser skin resurfacing that produces dramatic results in the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars on the face - it can also be used on almost any area of the body, including the hands, neck decolletage, forearms and legs.

The Smart Dot gently treats the skin in a "polka dot" pattern, sparing the bridges of normal skin that lie inbetween the areas that are "zapped" by the laser.

Dr. Sarnoff explains DOT Therapy at the 2008 South Beach Symposium.

These islands of untouched skin are the key to rapid healing: in many cases, instantaneous skin tightening is seen after a single session. This revolutionary procedure also stimulates your skin to produce its own collagen.

The result? New, rejuvenated, smooth skin is born! Best of all, there's no need for anesthesia, no significant downtime, no extended recovery or prolonged discomfort.

Dr. Sarnoff and Dr. Gotkin introduced DOT Therapy at the 2008 ASLMS (American Society for Laser Medicine Surgery) in Orlando, where they fielded questions and addressed their peers to a standing-room only crowd!

The SmartSkin Laser

Dr. Sarnoff and Dr. Gotkin also use the collagen-boosting SmartSkin laser for the treatment of acne scars, lines and wrinkles on the neck, chest and hands, brown spots and blood vessels.

It is also highly effective in the improvement of stretch marks.

Dr. Sarnoff is one of the country’s preeminent laser surgery experts. FAQs

Question:
What are age spots?
Answer:
Age spots (also known as liver spots or sun spots) are light or dark brown spots on the tops of the hands, face, shoulders, chin, upper chest and any other areas that are or have been chronically exposed to the sun.  Pigment-specific lasers can reverse years – even decades of sun damage.

Question:
Do age spots return?
Answer:
Once a spot is gone, it rarely returns.  The only way to prevent future blemishes is to protect your skin from the sun.

Question:
What is the difference between ablative and nonablative laser resurfacing?
Answer:
Ablative laser resurfacing, also called a LaserPeel, vaporizes the top layer of skin.  When your new skin heals, lines and wrinkles are dramatically reduced.

Nonablative laser resurfacing, also called laser toning or subsurface resurfacing, uses a minimally invasive laser to directly target water and collagen in the deeper layer of the skin without any wounding, burning, or peeling of the overlying skin.  The results are more subtle than ablative laser resurfacing, but the downtime is markedly less.

Question:
Who is a candidate for vascular-specific laser treatment of red problems of the face?
Answer:
Anyone who has small vascular (vein) imperfections and dilated or broken blood vessels which appear as chronically pink and red areas on the nose, cheeks or chin.

Question:
Which conditions can be treated with vascular-specific lasers?
Answer:
Rosacea, rhinophyma (red-nose syndrome), stretch marks, scars and keloids, spider angiomas, port-wine stains or other red birthmarks, warts, psoriasis, acne, wrinkles.

Question:
What is the difference between spider veins and varicose veins? How are they treated?
Answer:
Spider veins – known in the medical world as telangiectasias or sunburst varicosities – are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are larger - usually more than a quarter-inch in diameter, darker in color and tend to bulge. Anyone who has true spider veins is a good candidate for laser treatment. For some patients, sclerotherapy (injection of an irritating chemical into the vein that causes the vessel to collapse and ultimately disappear) can be used to treat varicose veins. However, often surgical treatment is necessary for this condition.

Question:
How do I know which laser is right for treating my particular problem?
Answer:
Cosmetique’s state-of-the-art lasers treat brown and red blemishes, unwanted hair, wrinkles and many other cosmetic problems.  No single laser is capable of treating all cosmetic problems of the skin.

During your consultation with Dr. Sarnoff or Dr. Gotkin, you will be advised as to which laser or combination of lasers are recommended and how many treatments will be needed to achieve maximum results.

For example, in some instances (e.g., removal of an age spot) a single laser treatment is all that is necessary to correct the problem.  In other cases, several laser treatments are needed (e.g., treatment of vascular blemishes or removal of a tattoo).
